Sat 25th May, 4.30pm | Old Ground Hotel

Since forming in January 2011, The Bonny Men have emerged as the most talked about, and exciting young band to emerge from the trad/folk scene in Ireland.

Their debut album, self entitled The Bonny Men, was recorded live over four days in the internationally renowned Windmill Lane Recording Studios. This album captures the raw energy and life with which these young musicians play music. Described as " a complete breath of fresh air", and " an album that would remind you of the explosive power of The Bothy Band", this album has all the hallmarks of an instant classic.

Their unique sound features two sets of siblings, both from well known musical families. Barry Lyons takes on the role of guitar, while on bodhrán is his brother Conor, twice winner of the World Bodhrán Championships. On uilleann pipes is Oireachtas winner Maitiú Ó Casaide and his younger sister Natalie plays the piano. All-Ireland champion Moss Landman is on flute, Turlough Chambers is on fiddle and Adam Whelan is on bouzouki.

Íde Nic Mhathúna is the lead vocalist in the band who can sing in both Irish and English, and her powerful voice is unforgettable once heard. Adding to this, Conor has a strong distinctive singing voice with a repertoire of his own, and all band members are adept at backing vocals and harmonies, giving each song they sing a full wall of sound.

Launch of Seoda Ceoil 1 & 2 CD - Gael Linn

Sat 25th May 4.30pm | The Cloister

The music of Ireland, town and country: it is our common cultural heritage. But this does not imply any dull uniformity. On the contrary, there is a rich diversity of Irish landscape and the dialects of the people.

In the Seoda Ceoil series some of our best traditional musicians and singers present us with a colourful pattern woven from this diversity, as they play and sing the music of their own native places.

Sna taifeadtaí seo faightear tobar fior-uisce an cheoil agus na n-amhrán. Blaisfidh tú úire agus saibhreas ár ndúchas sinseartha.

This double CD is truly a recording of historic importance. The featured artists are legendary figures in the pantheon of Irish music and most of the material featured had never been recorded before. Originally issued as two LPs in 1968 and 1969, these landmark recordings have never before been available on CD.

Is minic an téarma ‘Seoda’ á lua i gcomhthéacs ceoil ach fóireann sé go foirfe sa chás seo. Faightear anseo, laochra den traidisiún agus iad i mbun ceoil nár taifeadadh an chuid is mó de riamh roimhe. Taisce luachmhar, ardsásaimh atá ann.

Vincent Griffin "Vincent Griffin & Friends"

Sun 26th May 7.00 pm | Temple Gate Hotel

Vincent Griffin hails from the townland of Ayle, near Feakle, in East Clare.  Steeped in the musical tradition of East Clare, Vincent is very well known in traditional music circles, in Ireland and internationally as a musician and teacher.  He worked in London from 1960 to 1969 and was a leading figure in the trad scene there, playing with the Hibernian Céilí Band.

Returning to Ireland to settle in his native Ayle, he was a prolific performer at concerts, céilithe and sessions all over Ireland.  He taught at the inaugural Willie Clancy Summer School in 1972, returning there each year as a tutor up until recent times.

This is Vincent’s third recording, following on “Traditional Fiddle Music from Co. Clare”, (1977) and  “Traditional Irish Fiddle Music”, (2000).  It is a wonderful example of traditional playing in a beautiful, natural and melodic form and a credit to a great musician who has given so much of his time and energy to the music.
